Hello and welcome to My Organic Kitchen! This is a food journal about sharing natural recipes that’s easy, delicious and nutritional! I use only organically grown fruits and vegetables, grass-fed meats and wild caught seafood. I use no pre-package items at all.
You see, I’ve done away with the typical American diet and strive to eat only real food!
Why? Well lets see! Commercially raised fruits and vegetables are covered with chemicals and pesticides and most are GMO’s. Due to this, they’ve been stripped of most vitamins, fiber and flavor! Not to mention that washing and soaking your fruits and vegetables does not remove these chemicals and pesticides! Like the old saying goes, “You are what you eat”, and “You are what you eat eats”!
Industrial processing destroys nutrients in food which makes our food difficult to digest. Artificial flavors and preservatives are made by chemical companies! Like nitrates, which are found in cold cuts, extend the life of the product which is why you can buy a pound of turkey at your local deli that will last for a week. But did you know that consuming nitrates can cause cancer?
When was the last time you really read the ingredient list on a package? Go ahead, pull a package from your pantry and check out the ingredients. How many of the items do you know? Do yourself a favor and google those ingredients! You just might be surprised at what you are eating! Be sure to check out the word “refined” and “enriched” also.
Commercial feed lots, where cows, pigs, sheep, etc., are raised, are fed grains. First, cows are herbivores. They are mint to eat grass, not grains! Chickens in nature would roam the grounds and eat bugs and worms and grass! Again, “we are what we eat”!
The list goes on and on! If you really value your health and would like to live a life free of the typical American diseases, then you really need to educate yourself about our food industry. A good place to begin is at: www.westonaprice.org. Another good book to read is “The Omnivores Dilemma” written by Michael Pollen.
As I became more and more educated about what was in our food supply, I decided it was time to go back to cooking from scratch! Yes, it is a little bit more time consuming but it is well worth it! At first, you seem to think that you will never be able to do this day in and day out. But over time, it becomes second nature!
